Celebrating Independent Cinema

Independent filmmaking is the heart of innovation in cinema. Without the constraints of major studio formulas, independent creators push boundaries and explore stories that might otherwise go untold. At Luna Lumen, we're proud to champion these voices and provide a platform where artistic integrity comes first. What independent films have inspired your work? Let's celebrate the bold storytellers who pave the way for all of us.

We here at LLFF are excited for 2026 opening up and receiving filmmakers' creations. We will be posting regular festival updates here on this film festival thread so that you can comment and ask questions. 2026 we are introducing what we call "Niche" categories. What that means categories that we plan to carve out these niche categories that will be a main focus and highly unique. Below is a list of our niche categories and explanations of them and what we are bringing to the plate that is unique regarding to them.

Best Original Score

This niche category while is not an uncommon category to see at festivals however, the way we are approaching the category is rather unique and powerful. First, we have an internationally Multi Awarded Film Composer, Orchestrator and Sound Designer that is the director of the category, Andreu Jacob. Receiving his feedback of your original score…

Short Horror

Our first "community screening" post seems appropriate. It was scored by our own Director of Scoring, Andreu Jacob. I wanted to share because it's a good piece of work for several reasons. I won't go into why I think this movie was very effective in creating mystery, suspense and fear I want you to have the raw experience of viewing it. Enjoy! Also, if you are one of those people who enjoys taking a hot bath to relax...that might change after watching this. ;)

An important word

We like the story about Tom Cruise winning his first Oscar on November 16,2025, noting how many times he said the word 'thank you'. Repeatedly, more than 20 times, he thanked everyone involved.

He thanked everyone in the room, including the studios, the agencies, the artists, and the storytellers. He thanked the Academy. He thanked directors, writers, actors, cinematographers, editors, designers, stunt teams, and film crews. He thanked the theater owners and exhibitors, all of whom, he said, “make it possible for audiences to gather in the dark and experience something together.”

All filmmakers share a deep appreciation for the collective effort involved, no matter the size of the project. This shared experience fosters gratitude for being part of a world where we bring both true and fictional stories to life through film.

Character development

Walt discusses why Donald Duck was created. He explains about needing the contrast. Mickey Mouse's character wasn't one who had fits etc., he conducted himself professionally. So, for contrast he created Donald Duck as the one who had a temper. How does this corelate to the characters you develop in your stories?

We all as writers mix it up and bring other characters in for contrast. In this date and time nobody ever discussed what he was sharing so he had a major influence and was part of a movement that still influences film creators and writers today. Good stuff to see and discuss!
